NEP should also focus on safe transport


There is a lot of talk on National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) and its implementation. The director of education is also reported to have said that recognition to schools will not be given if facilities like proper wash rooms, playgrounds etc are not present. 

But what comes to mind is, why is safe transport to schools not given a serious thought.

A few months back, after a deadly accident involving prominent businessmen on the Mumbai-Gujarat highway, the government woke up with the Union transport minister speaking of making seat belts compulsory even for rear passengers in cars. 

In India and particularly in Goa, school transportation is extremely unsafe for kids. One can see school buses packed to capacity, vans transporting kids zooming and adding to that is other modes of unsafe transport.

With NEP being implemented from this academic year, it would be wise if the authorities give a thought to the transport issue of school children.

The recent tragic train accident hardly seems to have had any effect on our sartorially inclined and camerajeevi PM.
