Whether it is in Goa or Mumbai or anywhere else in the country, it is the same story. Take for instance, a coastal road project. It would definitely disrupt the lives of the fisherfolk who are in an occupation in which the entire family is involved. Similarly, those involved in farming. Of course, there is talk of compensation for those affected by such projects. How long will monetary compensation last?
Besides, what about the environmental damage on account of cutting down a larger number of trees and damage to water bodies along the way? We are already facing ecological disaster in the country on account of our mindless actions over the years. In short, the authorities need to take a more realistic view and must undertake a thorough study before embarking on projects rather than being stuck midway through the project, leading to cost escalation and disrupting the lives of the population.
