As Covid-19 continues unabated on its killing and destructive trail, the question uppermost in the minds of most people today is, whether the corona virus is ‘man-made’ or and ‘act of God’.
At one point of time most scientists were inclined to believe that the virus was ‘man-made in the Wuhan laboratory of China to serve as a bio- weapon for the destruction of enemy countries.
Others believed it to be a virus that escaped accidentally from the Wuhan lab while a vaccine for AIDS was being developed. Ecologists were quick to react and condemn humans for the reckless use of the planet’s natural resources and the destruction of the planetary eco-system and environment.
Our Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman believes it to be an “act of God” which has caused the country’s economic slowdown. For Doomsday believers, the end of the world is imminent as the pandemic signs are believed to be a precursor of the final destruction of the world.
No prophet has yet turned up to prophesy the “Word of the Lord”. Spiritual leader Dalai Lama feels the need of a third religion which is neither theistic nor non-theistic, but one that creates a greater awareness of our interdependence on nature to deal with climate and environmental changes with the help of science.
For the Dalai Lama “the earth is our home and our home is on fire” We need to take action to put out this fire.
