Do not compromise on safety & security

There is an urgent need to restore CCTV cameras in Margao and other essential places in State to build up an effective surveillance system all across the State.

The traffic cell and control room has no access to independent footage from the streets of the towns. With no maintenance contract, the Margao town is left with no CCTV cameras to monitor the streets of traffic violations and crimes.

Under the MPLAD scheme, MMC had got 37 CCTV cameras to be fitted across Margao town. The project was commissioned in November 2013, in various phases. Today's practice is that any MPLAD project, the beneficiary has to give an undertaking to conduct maintenance. But none of them bothered to maintain them.

The government must spend money on safety and security of people while curtailing other wasteful expenditure.

The Police Department needs to be strengthened by filling all vacant posts. The economic slowdown and closure of business activities which has resulted in job losses is likely to increase the crime rate. The government should not neglect or compromise in regarding on safety and security of people.
