Elected panchas need to live up to expectations

The wards in the villages are small and everybody knows each other. There are a few things that candidates who contested the recent Panchayat elections should understand.

Firstly, the unsuccessful candidates should understand that only one person could win in their ward. They should accept the verdict gracefully and not show indifference to the people who they think did not support them.

Secondly, the elected Panch should remember that he is the representative of the whole ward and hence should serve all the people not just his supporters.

Thirdly, wrong things are common these days viz illegal construction of houses, blocking of public drains, throwing garbage in them, etc. It is the duty of each Panch to prevent these wrong things in his ward and not overlook them just because the wrongdoers happen to be his voters.

Lastly, in many villages house tax payment is in arrears. Just as the Panch works to satisfy the demands of the people for improvements in the ward, he should also see that his people pay their dues to the Panchayat.

Hope the newly elected Panchayat bodies live up to the expectation of the people.

All this while our…
