Navelim Villagers Union defeated Cuncolim Union 10-9 in sudden death to move into the finals of the 23rd All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter village football tournament organised by Sirlim Sport Club at Our Lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim.
Clinton Niasso opened the account in very first minute for Navelim Villagers Union. In the 4th minute, left-footer of Clifton of Cuncolim Union was well saved by Navelim keeper Selvin Gomes. In the 25th minute, Dualat levelled the scores for Cuncolim Union, 1-1.
In the second half, Prestly Gomes scored in the 48th minute to increase the lead for Navelim with a neat placement, 2-1. In the 52nd minute, Clifton missed a open sitter. Cuncolim Union were awarded a penalty as Nevin Pereira handled the ball in the box and Frazer made no mistake to level the scores, 2-2.
Nash Pereira missed a gloden chance in the last minute. In the tiebreaker, Navelim got the better of Cuncolim. In the shootout, Ronaldo, Nevin, Anil, Valinton, Nash, Prestly, Selvin scored for Navelim Villagers. For Cuncolim Union, Frazer, Jeston, Delvin, Bizesh, Ashwin, Clifton scored but Daulat missed his penalty.
Unjirim United edge Cumborda SC
Unjirim United beat Cumborda SC 1-0 in the 4th Cumborda Sports Club football tournament organised by Cumborda Sports Club, at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim on Friday.
Unjirim United took lead in the 15th minute through Floyd. Cumborda almost got an equaliser but Joslan's well-struck shot was saved by Unjirim goalkeeper. Post resumption, Cumborda tried hard to find the equaliser but the Unjirim defence stood firm and didn't allow Cumborda striker Mackson and Veron to find the net.
Floyd's sole goal was enough to seal the match for Unjirim United. The Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Amistron of Cumborda SC.
