Showing complete distaste for the family raj, the voters of Bardez rejected two of the same family members in many panchayats with several husband-duo candidates losing the contest.
In several cases, one of the couples who chose to contest won clearly showing the trend against family-run political business.
Among the prominent husband-duo who was shown the door was former sarpanch Fondu Naik and his wife Milan Naik from Guirim panchayat. The duo had contested in the last election too but only one was elected even then.
Another husband-wife duo Carmelina Menezes and Ongus Menezes from the same panchayat were also rejected by the voters.
Similarly, the couple Trupti and Ramnath Bandodkar from Nachinola panchayat and Anurag and Shalu Gupta from Penha de Franca panchayat also lost in the elections.
In a clear indication to people's dislike to the family raj, out of the four members of the Kandolkar family who contested in Sirsaim panchayat only one won.
Former Sirsaim sarpanch Gokuldas Kandolkar won but his wife Gitisha Kandolkar lost. Similarly, Gokuldas’ niece Namrata Kandolkar and his sister-in-law Gitanjali Kandolkar who contested from other wards also lost.
In Tivim, former sarpanch Tulshidas Shinde won but his wife Trupti lost and in Siolim-Sodiem panchayat former sarpanch Leo Dias lost but his wife Doris Dias won.
In Anjuna panchayat, Romaldina Mendonca won but her husband Pedro who contested from the next ward lost.
Similarly, in Siolim-Marna panchayat long-time former sarpanch Sylvester Fernandes had to bite the bust but his wife Carmelina Fernandes won while in Nerul former sarpanch Piedade Almeida won but her hubby Narciso Almeida lost.
