Like all things in politics, the family name does play a big role in panchayat elections.
The son of prominent politicians, the Lobo couple, Daniel Lobo was elected for the first time from ward 2 of the Parra panchayat.
Sandeep Shet, brother of State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade was also elected from ward 4 of Pirna village panchayat.
But the toast of the day was the election of Hanumant Halarnkar brother of Fisheries Minister and Tivim MLA, Nilkanth Halarnkar from ward 5 in Colvale panchayat.
Hanumant was never in the race against Nilkanth's candidate in the ward or at least Nilkanth wanted us to believe so but the voters definitely had other plans.
Apparently, the two brothers have had strained relations over the years.
