The Mopa International Airport was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11. However, the apparent fiasco at the entrance was shameful. Passes/invites were printed more than the total capacity. Resultantly, people who were transported by buses to the venue from nooks and corners of Goa were left stranded. It was unfortunate to see visuals of senior citizens, women and even children jostling in the crowd amid scorching the sun, to get entry. The police machinery seemed stressed though they deserve accolades for handling the situation without resorting to force. The Government needs to enquire why this happened. My experience is that ruling party politicians print these cards and distribute them among voters. The poor citizens are then offered rides in buses to the venue. This is apparently to put up a show of strength and politicians enjoy doing this. However this trend must stop as it could give rise to unforeseen situation like stampedes and even create a law and order situation thereby risking security of the citizens and VIPs alike. I request the CM Pramod Sawant to personally investigate the matter.
