I am a Panjimite by birth and I can say confidently that we have seen rickshaws are mostly used by poor people and old ladies who mostly cannot afford to buy vehicles and they prefer to travel also by our usual old buses which originated from Dona Paula bus stand which is a lousy and suffocated bus stand. The speed of these old buses too are slow with many stops. E-rickshaws will never be the answer for the Panjimite to travel better than any other mode of transport.
Rickshaws are below their dignity and anybody seeing you starts commenting by saying I saw so and so on the rickshaw which is not a compliment. Also they are not suitable during rainy weather. May be in Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu or even Kerala and other States all these rickshaws are doing well. Here in Goa especially in Panaji everybody prefers to have their own transport, it is sort of prestige and also buying of new cars to show off that they have the latest model of cars in their homes..
