After his conviction in the defamation case Rahul Gandhi lost his seat in Parliament. He was served with a preemptory eviction notice, to vacate his bungalow within a month -- a bungalow he had been occupying for nearly 2 decades. Personally, I feel MPs do not need bungalows in the capital. They should be in their constituencies most of the time looking after the needs of their constituents . They may, however, be given bungalows in their own constituencies so as to meet their constituents. In the capital while attending Parliament , the MPs may follow the US or UK model for accommodation. In UK and US most of the citizens have at least a two- bedroom accommodation. In India million live in slums and shanties. Why should our MPs have lavish bungalows in New Delhi? To his credit it must be acknowledged the PM Modi got rid of the 'lal batti' culture. I request him to do away with the bungalow culture. Why should voters live in shanties and their representatives live in bungalows?
