A bag containing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.2 lakh and cash left behind by a bus passenger travelling in a Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) bus from Panaji to Margao, was reportedly returned to the owner by the staff after the woman made frantic calls to search for her missing belongings.
The woman, who was on her way to Margao after celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, left behind the bag in the bus. It is learnt that the bus driver and conductor noticed the unattended bag after the bus reached the Margao bus stand and alerted the depot about the same.
The bag containing the valuables was returned to the owner after proper verification. This act of honesty on the part of the KTC staff went viral on social media.
This should be a lesson in honesty for the staff on other buses, both of the state-owned KTC and private buses. There is every possibility of passengers leaving behind their belongings in the bus by oversight, especially if they are carrying more than one bag.
The lost bag could be containing valuables which could have sentimental value to the owner. The bus driver and conductor of the KTC bus who returned the bag to the woman need to be felicitated by the State government for their act of honesty.
The KTC could also consider a raise in their pay package.
