NCP and AAP did a good job of cleaning the beaches of tar balls. This brings to fore two things -- one, the BJP government is either not interested or is slow in reacting. Two, the 2 parties are only working to gain brownie points in view of the ensuing elections.
It would be pertinent to know if any of these parties or our MLAs sought help from GSPCB or the NIO on how to dispose off the tar balls.
The Collector -- despite being designated as the Officer in Command for oil spill and tar ball problems -- was nowhere to be seen.
Similarly, Captain of Ports and the DG Shipping were also nowhere on the scene.
The major political parties too were silent on the issue. If at a time like this there is no action from our political masters, then only time will tell how they will behave.
With elections round the corner, all the parties will come out with their portfolios. What every Goan needs to ask these candidates is how many promises did they fulfil from the last portfolio.
Did all the manifestos of the ruling and Opposition protect Goa from coal, double tracking, destruction of trees and wildlife?
It is time all candidates take an oath to achieve one single objective: save Goa for Goans.
