Dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) are linked to the consumer price index, as already accepted by the government. DA and DR are the fundamental rights of an employee and pensioner respectively. Withholding this compensation package from January 2020 is unacceptable under any circumstances. The government should take note that DA and DR provisions are meant to facilitate survival of employees and pensioners against erosion of wages and pension.
