Goa falling short in some places for National Games?

Goa will host the 37th National Games, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Goa on October 26, 2023, to inaugurate the event at Fatorda ground in Margao. Approximately 10,000-plus athletes will participate in 43 events, with Goa likely to participate in 38 of them.

Goa initiated preparations for the event last year, including the development of sports venues and other necessary infrastructure. The sports authority and the state government’s sports minister will have a busy schedule during the events. Since schools will remain closed until November 18, 2023, all buses, including Balraths, will be used for transportation. Infrastructure plays a significant role in such events, and it is hoped that Goa will be a good host for the games.

There are also rumors that the Taekwondo team from Manipur and other states has been invited to participate, while Goans are not considered for the team. There should be equal and fair opportunities for all athletes in their respective games, encouraging locals to compete with athletes from other states. Goa should support local teams to participate, showcasing their talents and gaining valuable experience. Winning and losing are part of the game, but Goans will have the opportunity to interact with athletes from different states and learn from them.

It is time for the Goa sports minister and authorities to consider talented players from Goa for the teams, providing them with sufficient training and infrastructure to excel in sporting events.
