Goa is being sold out to outsiders, and this didn’t start today “ it began years ago when a few Goans started leaving the country for good. We can’t just blame the Congress or BJP governments for the current situation. We, the Goans, are equally responsible for selling our businesses and land. Today, we see outsiders making their homes in Goa, working here with their families, and running their own businesses. In the past, barbers, fishmongers, and bread sellers were all Goans. Today, these traditional businesses are being run by outsiders. Electrical shops, local village stores, and hotels are also managed by them. This has happened because of our laziness and lack of effort. Remember, no gain comes without pain.
All we Goans want is easy money. By helping outsiders and fighting among ourselves, we feel better. This is the reason why outsiders have taken advantage of our situation. Goa was once a mini Gulf for outsiders, but now it has become a mini Europe. Goans are only interested in government jobs, while politicians see the size of the vote bank and offer jobs to outsiders with large families in Goa, rather than abroad. Instead of outsiders giving business to Goans, today it is the other way around “ Goans are giving business to outsiders in their own state. This is a sad reality. Goans keep blaming the government while leaving for better opportunities abroad, leaving behind their own land.I truly respect the Niz Goenkars who have returned from foreign countries and started businesses such as selling fish or making ross omelettes, without any shame. They have succeeded in life. We still have time to restore our self-respect for future generations. If we don’t, Goa will be sold out to outsiders. Our shacks, boat businesses, and other seaside ventures are disappearing. Goans only seek easy money, without the effort required.
