With the term of the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) headed by Justice UV Bakre having ended the Government must diligently take immediate steps in expediting the process of constituting the new GHRC. In fact, the government should have prepared the groundwork in good time knowing well in advance when the term was coming to an end. There should be no attempt to keep the GHRC dysfunctional. With the increasing number of human right violations being witnessed there would be an undesirable vacuum without the GHRC in place.
In the current state of anarchy, there is a paramount need to secure the human rights of one and all. No citizen should have to fear the State but should confidently participate in its administration and stand up for his Rights. GHRC is an independent authority constituted by law to deliver justice and bring to book the violators of Human Rights.
