Christians all over the world observe the day of Christ's crucifixion on Good Friday, the day which brings to a close 40 days of the Lenten season of prayer fasting and penance. Jesus' death on the cross had all the elements of a perfect sacrifice. It was the purest form of martyrdom , the embodiment of God's love and saving mercy that brought about the redemption of all mankind. Jesus died forgiving all his enemies. By dying on the cross Jesus became the true lamb by shedding his own precious blood in place of the sacrificial paschal lamb. --- the lamb of God whom John the Baptist speaks as the" lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world". ( Jn 1: 29). A crucified human being became a symbol of salvation for all humans.
