With the ascendancy of majoritarianism and divisive identity politics centred around the ideology of muscular Hindu nationalism some canny film producers have started making films which promote divisive sectarian views of politics and imagined history. The overarching storyline is undermining of truth, lies peddled as fact, correction of imagined historical wrongs and glorification of Hindu nationalist 'icons'. One such example was Kashmir Files which was promoted by even the PM, BJP CMs and RSS chief in their speeches. Kerala Story is another film which exaggerated sporadic incidents of conversion of Hindu girls to Islam to feed the ISIS ranks. On a heartening note other propaganda tools like The Vaccine Wars, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and 72 Hoorain failed to make a blip on the box office radar but communal film makers are still at their game to get in the good books of the saffron dispensation. Jahangir National University set for an April release is targeting the vibrant political culture of JNU and is propagating the myth of a supposed 'tukdey tukdey' gang trying to break up India. People of India should wake up to such machinations and en masse reject bilge masquerading as cinema.
