Last week, an ancient goat-headed deity, stolen in the 80s, was found in a garden of a UK house being sold. Thanks to Art Recovery International, which works with foreign governments amongst others, the same is being returned to India.
Goa has had a large number of century old statues and paintings stolen and sent out of the country but has recovered nothing! They have made no efforts to deal with such organizations.
In fact, it is doubtful if they have a detailed inventory and description of the same. Besides the government, has the Church done anything on this front? Can the lay people know what efforts have been made by the two as also the ASI?
What will the ‘imported’ parties bring to the table when their candidates comprise the same 40 jumping jacks and their supporters? We seem to ‘place’ our entire life in their hands and are concerned only in changing the label! And then hope for the best!
Do we really care to have a better cultural life? If so, why sell yourselves to imported parties? Better to clean the Aegean stables.
