Gujarat deaths: Proof that prohibition does not work

37 lives were recently lost in Gujarat to hooch consumption, some others are in critical condition battling for their lives ; this is yet another proof that prohibition doesn't work, if anything it makes matters worse for tipplers. Bihar, which too has a prohibition policy in place accounted for 115 hooch related deaths so far this year. Prohibition only serves to drive it underground which is evident from ample availability of spirits for the well off in both states. This lucrative parallel economy which engenders corruption and criminal rackets is far more harmful than legal drinking.  Prohibition related litigation is jamming the courts too, a staggering 30 lakh cases are pending trial nationally of which Gujurat alone accounts for half. Revenues from spirit sales can shore up state finances instead of enriching the bootlegging mafia. Letting adults be if they wish to drink is an infinitely superior policy compared to having blood on your hands by pushing them to hooch due to this flawed concept of prohibition.
