Preventing accidents on bridges

A speeding vehicle reportedly climbed the footpath and rammed into the railing of the Zuari Bridge and landed in the Zuari River. It is understood that the incident occurred past midnight. It may be recalled that some days back a fatal accident was reported on the Atal Setu. A police constable reportedly lost his life after the car he was driving overran the road-divider which resulted in a head-on collision with an oncoming truck. Over-speeding could probably be the prime reason for accidents occurring on the bridges. It is pertinent to note that there is a speed-limit of 30 kmph for vehicles while they cross the bridge.  It must be said that the railings on the bridges need to be broad concrete structures which can prevent a car from falling into the river in case of an accident. There need to be CCTV cameras installed on the bridges which can detect overspeeding at night. As per the rules speed-breakers are not allowed on the bridges. Hence it is for drivers to maintain the required speed. Overtaking is also prohibited on bridges.
