Improve infrastructure for online connectivity

We are in, what is called the so-called ‘digital age’. From payments to education to worship, everything seems to have gone digital. Over the past few years, the public has been advised to use the digital platform for making payments -  Paytm, Google Pay, etc. All seems so simple and convenient and, yes, it is. The threat of protest by bank customers brings into focus the limitations of the digital age. According to a report, nationalised banks are unable to provide proper service on account of poor internet connectivity. Well, this is the situation even in Mumbai, where banks, post offices, etc, are facing tremendous connectivity issues. Education has also gone online, but according to news reports, students are unable to follow online classes on account of poor internet connectivity. It is indeed frustrating when things don’t go right. While the government is rightly encouraging people to go digital, it would be only fitting that proper infrastructure is in place. So, where do we go from here?

Of late there has been a lot of hullabaloo about legalising the cultivation of marijuana for medicinal use with the political class taking potshots against each other on the vexed issue. It speaks volumes that the file on the subject was vetted by the Law Department.
