It must be said that the Jobs-for-cash scam is growing bigger by the day, if not by the hour. More skeletons are tumbling out of the closet. Police complaints are being filed, and more FIRs are being registered, leading to arrests. The malady is not restricted to any particular area but is spread across the State. In hindsight, it makes one wonder whether it is indeed a cash-for-jobs scam or an unofficial jobs-for-cash “scheme”. Be that as it may, the job scandal does have short-term and long-term ramifications.
It does affect the rich, but not as much as it affects poor people. It affects elderly parents as well as the youth. It does not differentiate between brilliant students who have burnt the midnight oil and come out in shining colours, and the duffers who have just managed to pass. The only thing that matters is how much the parents can pay to get their ward a job. People have taken loans, sold their properties, sold their gold ornaments, and invested their life savings only to get their ward a government job. Obviously, the youth of today will lose faith in education, and there will be dropouts. This will lead to a decline in the standard of learning, since the only thing required to secure a government job is finance.
Those who get a job by paying a bribe will indulge in corrupt practices while working for the government, as they have to recover the money paid as a bribe to get the job. This will result in a vicious circle, and corruption will become the norm in government offices. Obviously, in the long run, this job scandal will affect every aspect of our lives. However, the worst part is that the cash-for-jobs scandal will leave bright students heartbroken. The impact is already visible, as postgraduates apply for jobs as peons. Until and unless the malady is nipped in the bud and the “cancer” is stopped from spreading, the frustration among bright youth will grow, and they will be left with no option but to migrate to foreign lands seeking greener pastures.
