It is quite obvious that our pristine Goa is disappearing, if not already gone. With neither the village panchayats nor the municipal authorities showing any interest in tackling the garbage menace, our beaches, paddy fields, rivers, springs, ponds, and village paths have been reduced to mere receptacles for garbage. On top of that, stray cattle and dogs feast on the muck and spread it around, creating unhygienic conditions.
It seems the government is apathetic to the situation since there is no money to be made by the mantris in cleaning up Goa. In fact, anyone pointing out deficiencies that adversely impact brand ‘Tourist Paradise Goa’ is immediately branded anti-Goan/anti-national and countered vociferously by sarkari mavens; why, even FIRs are filed against them.
How long can the government go on living in denial and burying its head in the sand like an ostrich with regard to the troubles plaguing the state? If the problem is not acknowledged, how will we seek solutions? And I am not even talking about drugs, prostitution, heinous crimes like rapes and murders, kidnappings, purse-snatchings, and fatal accidents taking place almost daily. Wake up and smell the coffee, Pramod bab, before it is too late.
