Kudos to Siolkars for protecting heritage

The High Court's stay on the ongoing felling of trees for road widening in Siolim till March 26 is a small victory for those who have been silently fighting to stop this madness of some vested political interest to turn their village into a concrete jungle under the guise of development.

Most politicians have indeed made it a fashion to hypnotise a few gullible poor people from villages to carry such type of destruction everywhere by calling it development.

Today, these politicians are seen practically destroying most agricultural fields, demolishing poor people's compound walls, cutting down old heritage trees and going for road widening in different parts of Goa. And they are seen doing this not for the benefit of local Goans but for the benefit of all the 'Delhi-wallas' and builder-lobby that is just waiting to bring their huge mega-projects in most of the villages in Goa.

The people of Siolim should be congratulated for keeping a strict vigil against such type of people and for successfully challenging their political godfathers in Court to protect the land of their ancestors and to save their old heritage trees and the environment for their future generations in Goa.
