It is understood that a complete ban has been imposed on activities involving use of lantern kites, wish kites and laser beams with high intensity lights within the ten kilometers of the Dabolim airport boundary in order to avoid any danger to the aircraft during landing and take-off.
It must be said that the use of lantern kites also poses danger of possible fire incidents at vital installations as well as private property, homes and petrol pumps.
There is every possibility of the string attached to the lantern kites snapping and the lit kite being carried by the wind to places where it can trigger a fire.
A lit lantern kite which descends to the ground can spread fire to homes with thatched roofs, dry grass in the fields, and other combustible substances lying on the ground.
It would be desirable to have appropriate restrictions in place with regards to activities involving the use of lantern kites in order to prevent a major fire accident.
