Licences of drunk drivers should be cancelled

This is with reference to the news report 'Police in civil clothes to keep tabs on vehicles near bars' (TGE, Aug12). The spate of road accidents in Goa including the one at Banastarim due to drunken driving, has motivated the traffic police for sure to eradicate this menace which keeps raising its ugly head time and again, bringing a bad name to the state. Keeping plain-clothes policemen  in the vicinity of bars, hotels, dance clubs, etc to note the numbers of vehicles, and later passing on the information to the traffic cells  is a novel way of reining in drunk drivers before they embark on their killing spree, mowing down innocent people and ending up in the river. But what about people who have house parties to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries where people get drunk and then drive recklessly  and kill themselves and others, as it happened recently, and several times in the past. How do we prevent such things from happening? The solution lies in having 'naaka bandhis' in several places and  to conduct breath analyzer tests. Those found drunk should have their licence cancelled and fined heavily.  As of now we see a lot of police barricades but no policemen.
