With reference to the news report ' Goa cannot stop Mhadei project: Karnataka CM' ( TGE , Jan 24), I would like to comment as follows: It is a well known and accepted fact that once the horses have bolted from the stables, it is futile to close the stable doors or seek their return. This is exactly the case with the Mhadei water sharing dispute which has dragged on for 30 long years without an amicable solution. Needless to say that that successive govts in Goa have presented a poor case on Goa's dire needs and prevention of the diversion of the Mhadei river by the Karnataka govt. Based on the green signal to the Karnataka govt by the tribunal formed 10 years ago to adjudicate on water sharing, and the nod by the Centre to the DPR ( Detailed Project Report), it is no surprise that Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai is now confident that the discussions held in the Goa Assembly to oppose the diversion of water from the Mhadei river, will not have any impact.
