During his recent visit to Goa, the Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar opined that there should be a 2-year military training for those wishing to take up government employment. He has also called for a debate on this topic. According to him a sense of discipline would develop in the employees and he also mentioned that such a trend is followed in foreign countries. His suggestion needs to be seriously considered so that the government employees would become more responsible and do their due duties diligently. We hope that the Centre would give the idea a deep thought, frame rules and regulations and implement it. All new entrants joining the government should be drafted into the armed forces for a period of 2 years.
This rule should even be applicable to those who newly join politics (since technically they too are ‘government employees’ as they get salaries and perks) to carry out their social work for the benefit of the citizens and the country. Perhaps then raving and ranting and name calling and raking up dead issues would come to an end. Their behaviour, both inside and outside, the proceedings in the Parliament and State Assemblies would be dignified. People would respect them and the country could progress rapidly.
