On April 21 this year the Goa government had announced a ten-day night curfew in the state which will remain in operation till April 30. It must be said Goa has witnessed a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the past seven days that the night curfew has been in force. The mortality rate due to the virus has also been very high during the week. This only goes to prove that the night curfew has been grossly ineffective in curbing the spread of the virus. Since the night curfew is from 10 pm to six in the morning, there is every possibility that people could be entering the casinos and the party hot-spots before the 10 pm deadline. These people could be leaving the party after 6 am in the morning in order to beat the night curfew. On the contrary, the Maharashtra government had announced a day curfew for 15 days which was effective from April 14. It is pertinent to note that Maharashtra has registered a significant dip in the number of positive cases ever since the day curfew was enforced.
