Politicians enjoy perks, people pay the price

The recent statement by the Power Minister of Goa about billing under smart electricity meters has caused concern among domestic users. Ministers, who enjoy perks and commissions, can manage higher tariffs. But ordinary people, working long hours in tough conditions, will feel the burden. After a tiring day, a fan or AC is not luxury in our climate; it is basic comfort for rest and health. Before becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had said GST would harm the public. But after coming to power, GST was introduced and people paid higher taxes for years. Recently, after the “vote chori” allegations raised by Rahul Gandhi, some GST rates were reduced. There is talk that vehicles costing RS 40,000 to RS 70,000 will become cheaper, but will people get refunds for the earlier taxes? Even the promised RS 15 lakh never came. Meanwhile, politicians get pensions after five years, while common workers struggle for theirs.
