The idea of a new building was mooted way back by parliamentarians and whether it would be better to repair/renovate the iconic building to encompass new and future requirements was discussed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and pushed the construction vigorously. The BJP has the habit of undemocratically imposing its will due to brute strength in Parliament and justifying its deeds by whataboutery. Just because Indira and Rajiv Gandhi may have laid the foundation stone/inaugurated some extension of the old building, is no reason for doing the same! The executive, legislature, judiciary are equal entities in Parliament and all owe allegiance to the President who is the right person to inaugurate Parliament for the people. The building however is being inaugurated by the PM and that too on Savaikar's birth anniversary. Absolutely undemocratic and shameful with almost all opposition parties boycotting the function, a disgraceful beginning for our new Parliament building! Hope better sense prevails.
