Prioritise protection of Goa's environment

If the protection of Goa's environment and its fragile eco-system does not become a priority, then Goa will lose its pre-eminent place as a tourist destination of choice. Already it has been observed that the quantum of foreign tourists who used to come to this abode in search of hideaways has diminished. The reason is that the present dispensation has been found wanting in tending to Goa's natural beauty. It is essential that the balance is maintained in so far as protecting our rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, canals, waterfalls, mangroves, marshy lands, wetlands, beaches, coastline, forests, hills, fields, springs, national parks, wildlife reserves in pristine condition so that the same lure that Goa had become known for is restored so that tourism flourishes by fundamentally preserving our eco-system which has been found wanting for the last decade or so. The proposed marina at Nauxim will only cater to a few and will definitely impact adversely the traditional fishermen who have been tending our beaches and coast for so long.

Power wastage in villages should be checked

In the coastal villages of Goa, the streetlights and high mast light fixtures at beach entrances are often observed to be on till late in the day. A few years back most halogen and sodium vapour lamps were replaced by LED lamps in a bid to conserve energy and provide optimum levels of illumination.
