The massive illegal land filling going on in tenanted Comunidade land in Moromo O Pequeno, Merces, just a stone's throw away from Panaji city, came to light only after intervention by Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) personnel who upped the ante. After the hue and cry by RGP, the authorities like Flying Squad, panchayat, etc initiated some action. The site of the incident is just next to the Atal Setu. Many Government officers including the Collector and Secretaries to government must be passing through this area. However all have turned a blind eye to this blatant destruction of environment and low lying khazan fields. The authorities in Goa have become so thick skinned that their pen does not move unless they receive a written complaint. This is most unfortunate.
