Road repair work does not merit inauguration

One usually comes across the news of road repair work being inaugurated by the leader from the locality or the local politician. Hot-mixing is routine repair work and does not call for an inauguration. It seems more like a move by the politician to take credit for initiating the work. There have even been instances when a particular road work has been inaugurated by two different leaders with the obvious intention to take credit for starting the hot-mixing. To carry out repair work of any type is the duty and obligation of the local elected representative and does not call for fanfare. One does not hear of an inauguration ceremony before the repairs of a repaired water pipeline or a  collapsed retaining wall? Inauguration ceremony for a new road is understandable, but not of an existing road. As a matter of fact it is a matter of concern that a particular road has to be hot-mixed several times due to sub-standard work. This culture of having an inauguration before commencement of any repair work, including hot-mixing of roads, needs to be done away with and reserved only for the start of new projects.

The CM must ensure the Mhadei diversion is stopped. Otherwise, he must admit the only protection of Goa’s interests comes from NGOs.
