The country has been reeling under the impact of a series of scams that have rocked the very foundation of trust and confidence of citizens. It has also given rise to a new breed of Indians -- 'Fugitive Millionaires' -- who flee to other countries with their ill-gotten wealth leaving Indian law enforcement struggling to bring them back. Wealth is flaunted as a symbol of power. The reason why corporate fraudsters go scot-free in India is due to the lacunae in our archaic legal system, which is ill-equipped to carry out a detailed probe. Perhaps the biggest point against demonetization is that it had largely affected the millions of unorganized sector workers who lost wages and livelihoods.
