SOPs down the drain; Goa immune from Covid wave?

Delhi is in the grip of 3rd wave of Covid attack. Karnataka is gearing for 2nd wave in January as advised by its Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) formed to tackle the Covid pandemic. Goa is immune to any more waves because the TAC in Goa is the TTAG?

Nightclubs in Goa are running full swing with no SOPs being followed. No fear of any imminent 2nd wave. Yet, while all clubs are violating the noise pollution act and coastal regulations, the authorities are selectively targeting only a few units for  not following the SOPs.

Residents in these areas have regularly been complaining about noise pollution Act violations to no avail. This year, for the first time, a Retreat House too complained. This makes me recall how ‘do gooders’, living far from this madding crowd, leave no stone unturned to advise the Govt to send tourists to the soft underbelly hinterland: that too 365 days of the year. Recall, in a village in Ponda, the local women objected to the sale of liquor to tourists as the latter harassed them. The Collector duly banned the sale of liquor there.

The matter regarding plastic bottles dumped near Adpai jetty in Ponda was highlighted in 'The Goan' dated December 3. The authorities have cleared the garbage and I thank them for initiating quick action in this regard. However, the much needed dustbin was not noticed at this spot. I request the authorities to place a dustbin here so that the public at large can utilise the same. Let us hope that needful will be done in public interest.PRAVIN U SARDESSAI, Adpai
