The State government has decided to set up 'Early Invention Centres' at the taluka level for the benefit of disabled children from 0-6 years and will also construct a permanent home for disabled children and youth.
This was stated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant while addressing a gathering after inaugurating the Dnynvardhini Divyang Training College offering BEd course at a function organised by the social welfare department at the Sanjay Centre for Special Education in Porvorim.
“At present, there are 'Early Invention Centres' at the district level in the State. Following public demand, the government has decided to open such Early Invention Centre in each taluka, so that challenges confronting disabled children can be detected at an early stage and necessary treatment can be given to them.”
“The State government has also decided to construct a 'Permanent Home for Disabled' children and youth. Parents are always concerned about the future and welfare of their disabled child when they are too old to look after them or when they pass away.”
Highlighting the need of a BEd college in Goa to teach Divyang students, the chief minister lauded the Sanjay Centre for Special Education for fulfilling this need.
“Those who have a genuine interest in serving Divyang students should join this BEd course. The government also proposes to offer shops to Divyang youth who desire to pursue business activities,” said Sawant.
“The government has started camps at the taluka level to distribute the equipment such as artificial limbs, hearing aids to disabled children free of cost,” said Sawant.
Director of Higher Education Prasad Loliencar said the State government is committed to redressing all grievances of the Divyang students.
“The education department has directed all schools in Goa to provide a 'Resource Room' for disabled children. There will also be a need for trained teachers who have completed a BEd degree course to teach Diyang students in schools.”
“The government is committed to providing inclusive education and the New Education Policy will take care of the needs of Divyang students,” said Lolienkar.
Director of Social Welfare Umesh Chandra Joshi, Chairman of Sanjay Centre for Special Education Guruprasad Pauskar, President of Porvorim BJP Mandal Kunda Chodankar and Prof R G Wiseman Pinto also spoke at this occasion.
