Authorities in Goa are bracing to tighten the screws on sound pollution and crack a whip on the violators who play loud music with the help of Goa police. However there is noise pollution of a different kind which citizens at several places have to bear with throughout the night. This noise pollution is in the form of thumping and rattling noise when vehicles at high speed move over rumblers. This noise could disturb the sleep of those having their homes close to the roads. Several of the rumblers do not have signboards or reflective lights to alert the motorists. Hence vehicles tend to speed dangerously over them causing a deafening din. The worst part is that vehicles can move over these rumblers at any moment during the night. This can disturb the sleep pattern of elderly people leading to heart conditions. It is learnt that across the radius of 50 to 100 metres the tyres hitting the ramblers reportedly blast like thunder even rattling the windows of the houses. It would be prudent not to install rumblers close to residential areas.
