Dumping of garbage by the roadside has increased byleaps and bounds. People often keep their houses neat, nut dump theirhousehold garbage by the roadside. In Ponda, such cases are common.Dumping of garbage behind KTC bus terminus towards the internal roadleading to Farmagudi has become a regular phenomenon. A similarsituation has been noticed adjacent to the road leading fromKhadpabandh towards Shree Shankar Parvati temple as also in thevicinity of Ganganath Shoppee along the road leading towards AlmeidaHigh School. In villages around Ponda, residents have been dumpinggarbage not only along the roadside but also inside the drains andnullahs. In the jurisdiction of Adpai-Durbhat, the local villagepanchayat has been collecting door-to-door garbage from households.But that has not stopped people from dumping garbage by the roadsideand and open areas. Even the jetties are not spared. One can seegarbage near the Adpai and Durbhat jetties. I doubt whether the VP ofAdpai-Durbhat has been issuing fines to violators. Recently a tempodriver was fined Rs. 5000 by the Bethora VP (in Ponda) for dumpinggarbage by the roadside on the Bethora-Borim bypass road. Other VPsshould follow suit and fine defaulters.
