Test quality of Kesarval Spring water

It is learnt that the Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha has launched work on the preliminary restoration of the famous Kesarval Springs through the Water Resources Department (WRD). The project has reportedly been taken up at a cost of 4 lakh and would be completed within a month. The spring attracts both locals and tourists alike and the water is said to have medicinal value. However some landslides near the spring have caused damage to it. Hence work of reinforcement of the surrounding area would also be taken up so that there are no more landslides in the future. However it is also vital to test the quality of the water at the spring. Several industries could be discharging dangerous chemicals in the vicinity which will pollute the groundwater. The water from the spring instead of having health benefits could prove detrimental to health. Hence a laboratory test of the quality of water at the spring seems necessary. Only superficial restoration of the Kesarval Springs may not suffice. Such an exercise should also be carried out at other springs in the State that are in a deplorable condition.
