Given the number of political parties in the fray for the much-coveted 2022 Goa Assembly polls, some of the contesting parties have come to realize that coming to power on their own will be difficult. Hence, a pre-poll alliance of ‘like-minded’ parties is the need of the hour.
Earlier, it was an alliance of ‘secular’ parties, to differentiate them from the ‘communal’ BJP party. Today, with a sizable number of Catholics holding ministerial and cabinet berths in the BJP govt of Goa , the communal tag has been conveniently dropped, and the BJP has now become more secular than others. Even the term ‘like-minded’ parties seems preposterous, since every party has its own and differing ideology. It would therefore be more appropriate if political parties seek an alliance with non- BJP/NDA parties, if their sole purpose is to do away with the BJP govt in Goa.
