Film star Kangana Ranaut's outburst against the Maharashtra government led to the demolition of her illegal structure. The demolition is a clear message of the might of the State. It appears that it was the only illegal structure to be demolished without hearing the party. There is a provision for regularisation of illegal structures and it has been a norm, if not an exception. The Thackeray government must not forget the thousands of illegal structures across the state. Our democratic freedom is in danger because politicians are super sensitive to criticism. What is wrong with this country? The Supreme Court too uses contempt proceedings to stifle criticism. Any dissent against the ruling party is intolerable. It can lead to arrests, detention and anti-national label. Our democracy is slowly being undermined by an authoritarian regime, which does no wrong.
