The Rs10 coin is a legal tender issued by Reserve bank of India in 2005 and has been in circulation alongside Rs10 note but being a legal tender it is sometimes not accepted by bus conductors, bank employees, grocery shop owners, railway station booking counters and also government officials. These are the people who should show public how to abide by the rules and regulations but these are becoming law breakers. I am also a victim of this but when I told the shopkeeper that I will file a complaint he accepted the Rs 10 coin but the funny part is that the shopkeeper kept the coin and gave it back to me when I came shopping the next time. This type of behavior of public and government officials and others not accepting a legal tender should be dealt with firmly by the authorities as one cannot but accept legal tender. According to RBI rules, those found not accepting legal currencies are liable for punishment under IPC section 34-A (sedition charges). Hence public should be aware that those refusing to accept a Rs 10 coin are liable for punishment.
