Road closure in Panaji comes at a wrong time

It is learnt that another road in St Inez, Panaji will be shut down for two months. It is pertinent to note that quite a few of the arterial roads in the capital city have been dug up in order to develop them as ‘smart roads’ under the project of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Corporation Limited (IPSCDL). Some roads are excavated for over six months and new projects are causing great inconvenience to residents and traffic. In a couple of days the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will get underway. This global event attracts a large number of delegates from India and abroad. The festive season of Christmas and New Year attracts a huge number of local and foreign tourists.  It would have been prudent to plan the road-digging activity after the IFFI and the festive season ends. It would be in the fitness of things to open all the ‘one way’ roads for movement of traffic both ways. The road users should not be penalized for entering a ‘one way’ road from the wrong end till such time that all the roads are made operational.
