Union Cabinet reshuffle is quite surprising

The major restructuring effected by Prime Minister in the Union cabinet is a mid-term course correction, involving expansion, elevations, reshuffle and dropping of incumbents.

The first half is nothing great, but the next half of the term is important because the run-up to the general elections will soon start. The BJP realises that it will need their help in the coming elections more than in the past.

The dropping from the Cabinet of senior ministers is unexpected. They may have paid the price not just for their failure but the failure of the government in Covid management. Now the BJP's top leaders come to recognise that they need the art of political consensus and accommodation to run the country.

Strategic changes or cosmetic changes don't matter to the public anymore. Voters know that temple cannot save lives without oxygen and planning. The government has taken the country and citizens to stone age.

For the first time, there are 11 women ministers in the government. Women have emerged as an important vote bank.

There are now 27 OBC ministers out of 77 in the Modi ministry. The PM has given the public a chance to dream something new from re-combined team through the reshuffle.
