After the draconian decision of imposing a national lockdown last March, every talk of even a mini lockdown seems to run a chill down one's spine. In fact, when the Maharashtra government imposed a mini lockdown recently there were protests against the lockdown. However, in Goa, we hear of voluntary lockdown in order to break the chain.
It is apparent now, that the administration whether at the Centre or in states, has lost control over the pandemic. The central government seems to have abdicated its responsibility and put the onus on the states. The states' administration is all at sea. And so we find in Goa, several villages, local bodies & municipal corporations imposing voluntary lockdown, ignoring the chief minister's appeal not to resort to such measures.
The government may be turning a blind eye towards the ballooning Covid cases in Goa and surroundings, but the people are not blind. The authorities need to wake up to reality. They would at least ramp up the vaccination drive.
