Ganesh Chaturthi is an important festival in Goa, in fact the most popular one, when Hindus have to perform certain religious rituals and also celebrate. While not losing sight of this necessity, many leaders and the expert committee of the government had recommended certain SOPs with a view to keeping the spread of the killer Coronavirus in check but the government shot it down within hours of its announcement perhaps not to impose any restrictions on celebrations during this pre-election period.
It is now left to the people to worship Lord Ganesh, carry out the important rituals with all fervour and even celebrate during the festival but without throwing caution to the wind. The youth in particular should not get carried away by over-enthusiasm and indulge in activities that may endanger their families in particular and the society in general. Let us strive to see that Goa does not return to that dark period we witnessed few months ago when the positivity rate of Covid infection in our state was over 50 per cent resulting in many deaths. Wishing everyone a happy Ganesh Chaturthi.
