A more nuanced look at cybercrime reporting

The article "State Tops Cybercrime Reporting" caught my attention, but its celebratory tone seemed misplaced. High reporting of cybercrime shouldn't be a matter of pride; rather, it highlights the prevalence of crime. What about the statistics on solved cases and recovery of funds involved? In my own neighbourhood, two recent theft cases “ a scooter and two kidnapped pug puppies “ were solved through social media, not police assistance. This anecdote illustrates the public's preference for alternative platforms over traditional law enforcement channels. Moreover, reports of corruption and poor performance by law enforcers in Goa are concerning. Your newspaper has even covered instances of cops defying transfer orders. Instead of self-congratulatory moments, I suggest law enforcement agencies focus on improvement through regular training. Crime statistics should be reported frequently at the station level, allowing citizens to provide feedback.
